Repairing the Safety Net

Fixing the Holes

It’s hard to believe what has happened to Illinois over the past few years. Governor Rauner’s cold-hearted decision to hold our state hostage to his radical anti-union agenda has devastated Illinois’ “safety net” – the network of organizations and agencies that have been working to help our most vulnerable residents for decades.

By refusing to pass a budget for two years, Rauner deprived more than a million people in Illinois of services they need and deserve – mental health services, substance abuse treatment, child care, senior care, HIV prevention, and even food programs.

Thousands of experienced professionals have lost their jobs because so many well-respected, long-established organizations across Illinois were forced to cut back – or shut down entirely – during Rauner’s senseless budget showdown.

It’s not going to be easy. But as your State Representative, I will work hard every day to help our social service agencies get back on their feet and repair the gaping holes that Rauner has torn in Illinois’ safety net.  Illinois’ future depends on it.
